SQL Server DBA
We are seeking a SQL Server DBA for a market leading Software Solutions and Technology Specialist based in Milton Keynes.
Note: This role can be hone based with occasional trips to the office or client sites or based in their offices if you prefer.
The successful applicant will tasked with troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues. This is a great opportunity to work with both native and cloud-based DBA technology (Azure). This will Including optimising performance of their SQL Server and other relational database platforms.
In addition to the day-to-day maintenance of their database infrastructure, the DBA will be given a free role in driving initiatives to improve the resiliency of the platform and pairing with the development teams to optimise the performance of the application.
Education & Experience
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of DBA experience
- Any certification would be an advantage: MCTS, MCITP, MVP
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong Database Administration in SQL Server experience
- SQL Server Always-On Availability Groups
- Cloud experience with preferably Microsoft Azure
- Knowledge of other database server technologies is an advantage
- Knowledge of cloud and cloud native database server technologies is an advantage
- Awareness of NoSQL databases is an advantage
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc
- Ability to troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention
- Hands-on experience of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication
- SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)
- Strong problem-solving techniques
- Knowledge of 3rd party DBA tools and applications
- Hands-on experience of indexes, index management, and statistics
Responsibilities
- Commission SQL Server on cloud infrastructure
- Support the deployment and development of software solutions
- Commission backups, clustering, mirroring, replication, and failover on both cloud infrastructure and on-premises
- (PTO) Performance Tuning and Optimisation
- Test & validate commissioned solutions
- On-going management of the company SQL Server databases environments. These include the company development and mission-critical systems
- Configure and maintain database servers and processes.
- Create and employ security and access methods
- Troubleshoot and resolve internal and customer database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
- Define, develop, and maintain SQL code and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)
- Manage schema and data migration changes
- Submit database design proposals for architectural progression
- Develop database utilities
- Identify and communicate proactively technical problems and opportunities to the team and the stakeholders
